GTA Used In School Campaign Against Violence

Eight primary schools in the UK are using images from the game Grand Theft Auto IV as part of a project designed to stop children going on to become violent offenders.

The schools, in Merseyside, all have pupils between nine and eleven that are being shown images from GTA IV, including some of the game’s protagonist Nico Belic involved in various types of gun-play.

According to The Guardian the aim of the project is to stop children becoming desensitised to the violence and to show them the consequences that it can have.

The pictures shown, which also include images of knives and alcohol, must be divided into categories by the children so they can distinguish between good and bad as well as not real. The thinking behind the exercise is to reinforce that some of the things that happen in the game world aren’t real.

The scheme is expected to be expanded to Lancashire later in the year.
