The Digital Economy Bill has been passed today after making it through Parliamentary wash-up – the stage after a General Election is called, but before the dissolution of Parliament.
As such, it is now officially UK law and it received a voting majority in the House of Commons last night as it was discussed.
The bill includes a whole host of TV and internet measures that will be set to anger many. New anti-piracy laws are also being brought in and the PEGI ratings system will have to be adopted in the UK.
Some MPs were angry as they felt the bill had been rushed through and not properly debated. Whether amendments will be made after the election isn’t known.
