AMD’s latest 6 core processor has hit 6GHz with LN2 cooling.
To be a little more precise we are looking at 6295MHz or 6.3GHz for the six core processor from AMD. Running on a 26x multiplier with a 242MHz FSB the latest processor was overclocked using liquid nitrogen.
Luca, a Taiwanese overclocker, got hold of a Phenom II X6 1090T (with turbo overclocking) and used over 1.9V to get the CPU at 6.3GHz however the Intel i7-980X still holds the record at a mind boggling 6,815MHz. These CPU’s are not designed to handle such high voltage and it is unlikely they would last long with so much electricity being pumped into them.
Other components used in the overclock by Luca were an Asrock 890 Extreme 3 motherboard and Kingston RAM running at 2000MHz.
