Plasma and LCD Killer Abandoned

SED a potential replacement for Plasma and LCD technology has been abandoned by Canon due to expense.

Technology development has been frozen, effectively killing off the idea of a SED products hitting the consumer market because Canon could not get the economy of scales to work in their favour for a mass market product.

Canon began developing SED with Toshiba in 1999 but went alone in 2007 when Toshiba pulled out as well.

SED, surface conduction electron-emitter was shown off next to the best of Plasma TV’s the Pioneer KURO in the past and the SED TV’s black levels were simply out of this world.

The falling price of LCD TV’s have been a factor in Canon’s decision.
