Xbox 360 S achieves UK launch records

Just last Friday on the eve of the Xbox 360 Slim’s UK launch, we predicted the revised console could have the same positive effect the PS3 Slim had for Sony. Boy were we wrong, as it sailed way past the its slim PlayStation rivals, and even achieved parity with the original Xbox 360 launch back in 2005.
Surpasses PS2/PS3 slim

The Xbox 360 Slim, officially known as either the Xbox 360 250GB, due to its 250GB hard drive, or the Xbox 360 S, seems to have done much better than anyone expected. Often compared to arch-rival Sony’s PS3 slim released back in late 2009, in one weekend the revised Xbox console has already overshadowed its PlayStation nemesis. Not only has it performed better than the PS3 Slim, but the Xbox 250GB has even outperformed Sony’s ultra successful PS2 Slim console from back in the day. Quite a coup for Microsoft, as well as Xbox fanboys everywhere. Of course, PS3 fanboys will shoot back that the Xbox 360 S has yet to equal the PS3 Slim’s achievement of over 1 million units sold in only 3 weeks. However, at the current pace, the Xbox 360 250GB is easily on the way to doing just that.

Shortages already
Retailers too, it seems, were caught unprepared by the Xbox 360 Slim’s massive success. Tesco, the retailer giant that knocked £10 off the slim console’s official £199 price, is said to be experiencing shortages, as are other major retailers like Sainsburys and GAME. If you’re still interested in getting your hands on the slimmed down console anytime soon, it looks like you might have to fork over full price or check listings on eBay.
