Corsair 400R Carbide Series – External

The Carbide Series 400R is shown above and is a case which is entirely black and manufactured from steel with moulded plastic giving the chassis some refined curves. On the front panel we have four 5.25" drive bays with two 120cm intakes below which are pre-populated with white LED fans. Further up the front we have the main connectivity which runs from 2xUSB 3.0 through 3.5mm audio to firewire. An LED for hard drive activity is present as are power/reset buttons and a case LED on/off button.

For dimensions the 400R measures 20.5×8.1×19.8 inches.

Looking at the top of the case we find a perforated section which is ideal for 2x12cm or 14cm water-cooling radiators (such as Corsairs H100) or two 12/14cm fans. A handle to assist with moving the case is also present and a nice touch are the pre-mounted rubber washers which sit on the 12cm holes ensuring any fans installed have minimal vibration.

Corsair have added raised sections to the sides of the 400R which have two functions. On the left edge they provide enough space for 2×12/14cm fans without reducing cooler height significantly and on the right we have plenty of extra space to make case wiring easy.

Round at the back of the 400R we find a reasonably standard layout. The IO shield location is at the top left and sits beside an exhaust. This is populated by a 12cm fan as standard but also supports 14cm models. Beneath these are 8 PCIe card slots and to their right four rubber lined holes for water-cooling tubes. The PSU location is at the base of this case.

Looking next to the base of the system we find that there are four rubber feet which raise the case off our floor/desk and a removable dust filter is also present.
