PlayStation 3DTV available on November 13

Ever since its announcement at E3, some gamers have been eagerly awaiting the PlayStation 3DTV. The 24″ display includes MotorStorm Apocalypse (and Resistance 3 if you pre-ordered), one pair of 3D glasses, and an HDMI cable. Now, it finally has a date: November 13th.

Perhaps the biggest selling point of the display is its unique “SimulView” feature, which allows two players to get a full-screen image at the same time.

According to Sony, “the 3D Display is the only display on the market that supports the SimulView two-player gaming feature.” Of course, to use the SimulView feature, you’ll need two pairs of glasses. An extra pair of glasses can be purchased separately for $69.99.

While the feature is novel, not many games actually support the feature. At launch, you’ll be able to play MotorStorm Apocalypse, Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 3, and Super Stardust HD in SimulView. (No Resistance 3? Wipeout HD?) “We’ll have more titles to share soon,” the blog notes, adding, “we are continuing to evaluate all games that would be candidates for SimulView and working individually with each respective development team to determine if enabling SimulView makes sense.”

Thankfully, there’s at least a bit of 3D content to play, for those of you upset by SimulView’s limited selection. According to the PlayStation.Blog, there are over 40 3D games to play on the PS3 right now. And there’s also 3D movie content, via Blu-ray 3D and download via the PlayStation Store.

Finally, you’ll be able to connect your Xbox 360 and PC to the system, and play 3D games on there as well. (Halo Anniversary, anyone?) There is one caveat: “The only requirement is that the output from the PC needs to be HDMI standard format.”
