The Samsung Chromebook is currently available in two colours, white and the finish used on ours which is titan silver. On the lid we find the Chrome and Samsung logo’s.

In terms of dimensions the Samsung Chromebook is 11.6×8.3×0.8 inches and it weighs 3.3lbs.

Over at the left side of the Chromebook we find a Charge LED, power input and mic/earphones 3.5mm connector. Between the power and audio is a flip down panel which covers a USB 2.0 port and the mini-VGA output.

Round at the right side is another USB 3.0 connector as well as another flip down panel which covers the optinal 3G slot as well as a button to boot into a recovery mode should a problem arise.

On the base of the system we find various vents which allow air into the system and four rubber feet that stop the Chromebook from slipping on a desk/table. It is worth noting that there is no external battery, the 6-cell, 8280mAh model which Samsung use is built into the chassis and rated for over 8 hours of operation on a single charge.

Upon opening the Chromebook we find a 12.1 inch LED display with non-glare display which is designed to be as clear as possible in sunny conditions. The resolution used by Samsung is 1280×800.

Along the top edge of the screen we find the built in microphone and HD webcam.

Samsung’s decision to go with a 12.1" form factor allows them plenty of space to fit in a good sized keyboard. The keys all have space between them to minimise the chances of mistypes and a set of function buttons runs along the top giving us access to features such as volume up (this is a stereo system) and brightness (300nits). A multi-touch capable pad sits below this (acting as our left button also) and an SD card reader can be found on the front edge of the system.

For those interested in some more detailed specification information inside the Chromebook we find an Intel Atom N570 CPU which runs at 1.66GHz and features 2 cores. To further enhance performance these cores can each handle two instructions at a time. The Chromebook uses Intel’s own graphics for the display and the system has 2GB of DDR3 memory and 16GB of storage on a solid state drive (mSATA).

For connectivity every Chromebook has Wireless B/G/N and models with 3G internet are also available.
