HTC Evo 3D Android Smartphone Review

In our time using the EVO 3D it became clear that this is a handset where users will gain a significant amount from actually using the device over time. As a pick up and play device it doesn’t quite work well for 3D however use over a few hours and then a few days changes this as we begin to master the angles required and subjects that work best for 3D.

Outside the 3D areas the rest of the experience is very good, with the dual core CPU and 1GB of memory powering the OS along very well. It’s snappy, responsive and very much identical to the HTC Sensation. Part of this is however down to the fact HTC have done little to promote the enhanced features… no preloaded apps helping us to find 3D online content and no 3D hub app enabling us find all the 3D features in the one place.

The content is there though when searched for online, whether it be some impressive games in the market or YouTube 3D which works well.

It is also worth noting that this is a heavy and bulky phone compared to new smartphones such as Samsung’s Galaxy S2. While this is understandable given the 3D camera pod we feel it could have been further enhanced in terms of megapixels to appeal to a more high end audience.

That said we do feel that this is a remarkable phone. It breaks new ground and convincingly shows us that 3D is something which works in a smartphone. For now though it will appeal most to those that like to have the newest gadget and their experiences will shape the 3D phones mainstream consumers will use in a few of years.
