Tritton Primer XBOX 360 Wireless Stereo Gaming Headset Review

With online gaming for consoles becoming more and more popular it is increasingly important that we equip ourselves with a good quality gaming headset, and since most people don’t really want wires trailing across the floor a wireless model is a must have.

Enter Tritton, a Mad Catz group company that aims to offer the best range and choice for console players looking to purchase a gaming headset. Released as part of a range refresh they are in the process of completing we have on our test bench today the Primer, a wireless stereo gaming headset for the Xbox 360.

Packaging and Bundle

The Primer is presented in a large box with the Xbox 360 logo and colouring being prominently displayed on the front. It features a large clear plastic section which allows us to get a good look at the Primer and this window curves around the edge of the box so we can see the side of the headset as well as the front.

Turning to the back of the box we find a large graphic of the headset along with a list of its key features. While these are prominently displayed in English they are also re-stated in several other languages.

The 5.8GHz wireless base station included with the Primer is a small compact unit, no larger than an average CD case. It is presented in black plastic with the familiar red Tritton TT logo visible towards the front top edge. The front of the base station also has a power LED.

If we look at the back of the receiver we find a micro USB port, which allows us to power the unit from our Xbox 360, and an audio in port to pick up the sound. Finally we find a sync button that we need to use when we first connect the headset to our Xbox 360.

Turning the base station over we find four rubberised feet that provide excellent stability. The styling features an angular design, something we see repeated in the Primer headset itself.

Provided along with the base station are a number of leads and manuals which are secured within an accessories box. The manuals include a quick start guide as well as a full product manual and we also find a pamphlet highlighting other products in the Mad Catz group. Then there are two AA batteries which are used to power the headset.

A selection of leads is included which allow us to connect the headset to our Xbox 360, regardless of the model. We have an RCA adapter cable, an analogue audio adapter, a USB cable and headset connector cable.
