ZOTAC ZBOX Blu-Ray AD05 Plus Mini PC Review

Starting with the build quality of the ZBOX AD05 Plus we have a unit which feels sturdy in the hands thanks to parts which fit well together, thick rigid plastic and a nice brushed metal finish. The overall design is also nice with the system looking like it would fit into most home theatre environments. It certainly looks like a Blu-ray player more than a PC.

Internally the layout is good with easy access to each major component should we wish to change it and even a spare mini-PCIe slot for newer devices such as compact SSDs. That said we would add a few extra USB 2.0 ports to the system because after adding a keyboard, mouse and the USB receiver there is only one left over.

In terms of performance everything we said about the AD04 is relevant here, we have a system which offers a decent, responsive operating system experience. We can move around in windows efficiently and smaller programs such as our browser open quickly. The system is also more that capable of playing high definition content, streamed or from disc and there is more than enough power from the APU to let us perform some basic gaming also. More advanced games will require low resolution and detail levels, something which is expected for a system of this price range. A 7200rpm drive would have been nice, backed up by 4GB although these can be added by the consumer. Low noise operation and minimal power use were particular highlights of this ZBOX.

An ideal HTPC for those short on space or with low noise and minimal power draw as essential features.
