Hewlett-Packard (HP) has announced several ultrabooks including the Envy Spectre and EliteBook Folio 9470m, featuring Intel’s latest Core i7 processors, as well as ultra-like notebook models such as the Envy Sleekbooks series.
As for models featuring Core i3 and i5 processors, sources from retail channel expect HP to release the notebooks in early June.
Within HP’s ultrabook lineup for 2012, Compal Electronics has already landed orders for at least four ultrabooks including 13-inch and 14-inch models and started shipments in the second quarter.
Some market watchers estimated that Compal will supply about 5% of HP’s total notebook shipments in 2012.
Compared to other notebook ODMs, which are estimated to only have 10% of their notebook shipments being ultrabooks, Compal expects ultrabooks to account for 25% of its notebook shipments in 2012. However, since ultrabooks ASPs are still rather high, brand vendors will mainly push ultra-like notebook models in the short term to boost demand.
