Conclusion

Starting with the build quality and design NZXT’s Hale82 N PSU we have a unit which has a nice solid chassis that has a high quality black painted finish. Externally it is well assembled and the white fan is a nice touch. We like the minimal use of branding/stickers but there is an issue with the cabling used. We get an extended 8-pin cable which is a benefit however the GPU/PCIe connectors feature solid 8-pin blocks which won’t work with 6-pin sockets without convertors.

Internally the good component choice continues as we find 105°C capacitors, though the use of all Japanese would be preferable. Elsewhere we have known branded parts which have passed by our test bench in other quality PSUs, the fan being one example, MOSFETs another. Also adding to the unique white/black design is the PCB which certainly stands out from the majority of green boards on the market.

On the performance front the Hale82 N is a real mix. Noise levels were decent, efficiency good and thermals ok. Voltages however were disappointing with +3.3v dropping quite low. The real issue was the noise/ripple result though with the +3.3v and +5v reading failing to meet specification, something we rarely see on a PSU.

Summary
Some disappointing results as we head towards full load stop us from being able to recommend the Hale82 N. Consumers would be far better to buy the normal Hale82, benefiting from its better electrical performance and modular design.
