The Silencer Mk.III – Inside

PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk.3 fan
PC Power and Cooling use an Ong Hua fan inside the PSU and it is a ball bearing model running on 0.36A. The part number is HA1425M12B-Z which tells us it has a 2000rpm maximum speed though hits around 1400rpm at full load. As noted earlier there is a fan switch on the back of the PSU and this allows us to select two modes. In the first the fan is always on and temperature controlled. In mode 2 it is fanless up to 50% load and temperature controlled as required.

Inside the Silencer Mk.III we have a black PCB which is well packed with components including two reasonably large heatsinks. Where appropriate components are given extra stability by white adhesive, wiring it tied in place and plastic seperators keep items apart. High quality components are used throughout including Japanese capacitors which we will look at shortly.

The Silencer Mk.III range also has several features which combine to protect the PC components in the event of a fault developing. First up is Over/Under Voltage Protection which ensures that the 12, 5 and 3.3v outputs do not exceed a set level. Over-Current Protection works on the same outputs to ensure DC voltage remains within safe limits. Short-Circuit Protection is also present which powers off the PSU should any of the 3.3v, 5v or 12v rails short any other rail or ground.

In terms of key features we have a unit which has one +12v rail rated for 99.5A and PC Power and Cooling mix this with an 80 Plus Platinum certified spec which means it has passed certification of 90%/89% efficiency at 20% and 100% load with 50% load rated at over 92% (115V).

We noted earlier that this PSU uses high quality components such as Japanese capacitors and these include 400v-680uF/400v/560uF Nippon components rated for 105°C. The use of 105°C parts continues throughout and the quality of soldering is also of a high level.

Other Specifications/Features of note are:
Active PFC – 0.99
Input Voltage – 100-240V (Auto)
Warranty: 7 Years
Safety: cUL, FCC, CE, TUV, CCC
