Finally we have the AV500+ gigabit powerline adapter starter kit. The packaging for the AV500+ is slightly larger than the N600 however smaller than the N900. Like the other TP-LINK products it carries the familiar green colouring and has a large picture of the product on the front of the box. Turning to the rear of the package we see a comparison table of powerline products available from TP-LINK along with a graphic showing how the product could be used around the average home.

As with the other TP-LINK products we have a quick installation guide and a mini CD. On this occasion we also find a short brochure highlighting the range of products available from TP-LINK. TP-LINK has also provided two Cat 5 cables to link the two powerline adapters to our router and device.

TP Link AV500+ Adapters

Each adapter is finished in a high-gloss white plastic on the front and black on the sides and rear. These devices simply plug into our standard wall socket and turn our existing electrical cabling in our house into a high speed data network. The AV500+ will provide a transfer rate of up to 500Mbps and have a 300 meter range over our existing electrical cabling.

These devices are plug and play, as we don’t need to configure them to gain a signal. The front of the adapters features three LED indicators and an integrated power socket. So even while we are using the plug as a data network we can also plug another electrical device into the adapter so that we don’t lose a plug socket in our home. The AV500+ also features 128-bit AES encryption.
