Software

N900 Configuration Assistant

Software

Setting up the N900 can managed via the setup wizard software provided on the mini CD. On running the CD we get the choice of device to setup, as the CD covers both the N900 (TL-WDR4900) and the N750 (TL-WDR4300).

Software

The first step in the easy setup assistant is to select our language, as the CD provides multi language support. Once we have selected our preferred language we are ready to go through the configuration steps.

Software

The first steps the assistant takes us through is connecting our router to our PC and Wan source and connecting the router to its power source. Once the router is connected we can switch it on and it will automatically start to connect to our network.

Software

The assistant will provide us with a guide to the LEDs on the front of the N900 that need to be enabled before we can continue. Once the LEDs are lighted as indicated we can proceed to the next step.

Software

The next step allows us to configure our router, starting by confirming which connection type our ISP provides. This setting will depend on which type of ISP connection we have, either cable or ADSL via an ADSL modem into our WAN port of the N900. At this stage the assistant will also allow us to configure the 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless bands, including setting the wireless password, should we wish to not use the default one provided.

Software

Finally we are able to confirm our settings. The assistant will remind us that the N900 has the WPS (Wi-Fi protected setup) feature, where we can securely connect devices to our router using a single button press.

Software

At the end of the process we get a confirmation message that indicates that our router is set up and we are ready to connect to the internet. Once we have run the setup assistant if we wish to access the router configuration menu we can do so by accessing the router IP address.

Software

The web based configuration menu for the N900 contains the standard elements that we would expect to see for a modern router. We can control all aspects of the router, from wireless and network settings, port control, IPv6 support and system tools to allow us to update firmware.

N600 Configuration Assistant

Software

As with the N900, the N600 also has a mini CD that contains a setup wizard. It has a setup assistant for the N600, and the N750 and N900.

Software

Unlike the N900 the set up for the N600 is very simple, all we need do is install the drivers for the USB adapter and, if we want, the TP-LINK wireless configuration utility which helps us scan for and connect to wireless networks.

Software

We opted to install both the drivers for the USB adapter and TP-LINK wireless configuration utility. This only took a few minutes and once installed the utility automatically ran after we had connected the N600 to an available USB slot.

Software

The configuration utility scanned for available networks, quickly finding the TP-LINK network from our N900 router. We then were able to quickly connect to this network using the password we had selected during the setup of the N900. We could of course have used the WPS feature available on both the N900 and N600, simple one button secure connection to our new wireless network.
