ZOTAC GeForce GTX 680 AMP! Edition Graphics Card Review

ZOTAC GeForce GTX 680 AMP! Edition Graphics Card Review

Power, Temperatures, Noise and Overclocking

For idle power we list the full system use at the wall after sitting at the desktop with no activity for 5 minutes. Load power is the highest reading we saw for the full system when testing during this review. Temperatures are taken in the same way. Noise levels are taken after a period of prolonged gaming in a scenario which applied maximum load to the GPU. Finally, our CPU is running at full MHz when testing, speedstep etc disabled.

ZOTAC GTX 680 AMP! Edition 199w 415w 32°C 77°C 45.0dB
ZOTAC GTX 680 AMP! Edition SLI 215w 557w 35/36°C 82/75°C 50.1dB
AMD Radeon HD 7970 OC 203w 444w 41°C 73°C 54.4dB

When at idle our two custom cooled cards show similar power readings however the 680 is balanced to run at 32°C instead of the 41°C seen on the Radeon. When we move to load the Radeon draws more power but runs slightly cooler. That said the AMD card was significantly louder and the ZOTAC cooler barely audible in a normal system… that changes a little with the cards in SLI but two AMP! Editions are still quieter  than one 7970 OC.

Firestorm Overclocking tool

Overclocking the GTX 680 is a simple process; we open the ZOTAC Firestorm tool and through moving a few sliders can increase the performance of the card.

  Max OC (Core/Memory)
ZOTAC GTX 680 AMP! Edition +134/+213

  3DMark Stock Power/3DMark Overclock
ZOTAC GTX 680 AMP! Edition 3548 452w/3811 (46.1dB)

Even though the AMP! Edition is overclocked at the factory we still achieved a decent overclock and as a result some nice enhanced performance.
