EA has announced a Titanfall release date of March 11, 2014 in North America and March 13 in Europe. The publisher also confirmed on Tuesday that a premium $249.99 Collector’s Edition will be released alongside the standard edition of the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC shooter.
The Collector’s Edition will include an 18 inch hand-crafted Atlas titan statue with diorama and battery-powered LED lighting, a 190 page-plus art book, and an exclusive schematic poster. It’s available for pre-order now at select retailers.
Titanfall is the multiplayer-focused debut project from Respawn, the studio which was founded in 2010 by Jason West and Vince Zampella, the former co-creators of the Call of Duty franchise.
Officially revealed at E3 in July, the sci-fi shooter went on to be named Best of Show at the E3 Game Critics Awards. Featuring fluid, fast-paced gameplay, the shooter was publicly playable for the first time at Gamescom in August and has so far been praised by critics.
The game features a mix of infantry and fast-paced mech combat, while combining story-driven set pieces to the multiplayer confrontations.
CVG said in a recent hands-on Titanfall preview: “Mixing daring acrobatics with disciplined FPS play is a wondrous, free-flowing merger of two genres. This is wire-fu warfare. This is how much fun we would have had if Soap and co entered The Matrix.” Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella said today that he’s been “blown away” by the reaction to Titanfall so far. He said: “The feedback we’re getting from fans around the world is fueling our team as we head towards March and motivating us to deliver an experience that lives up to the hype.”
