HP comes back to phones, phablets

Product image

HP is trying to sneak back into the phone market and the company’s mobile starts in a huge market with more than a billion consumers, also known as India. HP has announced two phablets called HP Slate 6 VoiceTab and Slate 7 VoiceTab.

Both are Android 4.2 devices and they will come with dual 3G SIM support, 3G, Wifi, 16GB built in storage and up to 32GB of external storage expandable via a MicroSD slot. Both phones feature 2-megapixel font cameras and 5-megapixel auto focus rear cameras with an LED flash. The HP Slate 6 VoiceTab is 8.98 mm thin while the 7-inch version lands at 9.5 millimetres thick and comes with a scratch resistant carbon fibre case.

HP did not reveal the screen resolution or the type of CPU inside, despite the ongoing rumour that they will feature Intel CPUs.

An official HP blogger went on record saying that there phone are “currently launching in India” and that HP does not have any additional availability or pricing information to share at this point.

There will be more details to come but this means that HP is digging its way back to the phone market. If we were to bet, China will be the second market to go after, since China is the top market for phablet devices. However, Lenovo, ZTE, Huawei and Xiaomi won’t exactly roll out the red carpet for HP in China.
