IDC has announced that over 1 billion Smartphones were shipped in 2013, the first time that the booming market has crossed that figure. Back in November, the same organization had predicted that the 1 billion mark will be breached in 2013. To be precise, it’s 1.004 billion units. Of that, 284.4 million were shipped in Q4 alone, a figure that is 24.2% higher than the 229 million units shipped in 2012.
World leaders Samsung enjoy a healthy 31.3% market share, having shipped over 313.9 million Smartphones last year. Apple came in second with a 15.3% market share, or 153.4 million units. Huawei, Lenovo and LG finished in third, fourth and fifth places respectively.
Expect an even higher figure of Smartphones (and for that matter, tablets too) shipped next year.
