Google starts rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to Nexus devices

The latest version of Google’s mobile OS, Android 5.0 Lollipop, was originally expected to begin rolling out to the company’s Nexus devices on November 3. But after that date came and went with no update, it later emerged that Google had pushed back the rollout to November 12, possibly due to the late discovery of a battery-draining Wi-Fi bug.

Right on cue, Google announced today that it has commenced the rollout of Lollipop, and that it “will soon be available on most Nexus devices”.

You may find that the update is not immediately available for your handset – it’s likely that Google will be ramping up availability in the hours and days ahead, and it may be some time before all devices and variants have been fully updated.

Google has confirmed that the following devices will all be eligible for the update:
•Nexus 4
•Nexus 5
•Nexus 7 (2012)
•Nexus 7 (2013)
•Nexus 10

Of course, the recently introduced Motorola Nexus 6 handset and HTC Nexus 9 tablet both come with Android 5.0 pre-installed. The Lollipop update introduces a massive range of new features, along with a new look for Android, based around Google’s new visual language, ‘Material Design’.
