Samsung announces the Galaxy Tab S2; available in August

Samsung has announced it’s launching two tablets next month, both featuring the Galaxy Tab S2 moniker.

The new Tab S2 tablet comes in two 8-inch and 9.7-inch models, with very similar internals. The new devices are designed to go head to head with Apple’s iPad line, being closer in size, aspect ratio and design to those device than anything else Samsung has pushed out so far.

The Galaxy Tab S2 features:
•8-inch / 9.7-inch S-AMOLED screens at 2,048 x 1,536 resolution
•4:3 aspect ratio
•1.3 Ghz +1.9Ghz processors
•3GB RAM
•32 or 64 GB of internal storage
•MicroSD card support and fingerprint scanner
•8-megapixel rear camera, with 2.1 MP front-facing camera
•Android 5.0 Lollipop

The devices are also some of the thinnest Samsung has made, coming it at just 0.22 inches. That being said the two devices also have some important differences between them. The battery is much smaller in the smaller tablet: 4,000 mAh as opposed to 5,780 mAh found in the 9.7-inch model. Weight is also an important differentiator with the bigger tablet coming it at 389 grams, while the smaller one is a much lighter 265g.

Both devices will be available globally starting next month, and although pricing has yet to be announced, the Galaxy Tab S2 is expected to retail with prices similar to those of the iPad.
