Android 6.0 released for NVIDIA Shield Tablet K1

While Google has been rolling out Android 6.0 to its Nexus devices back in October, it is still unsurprising to see manufacturers of other Android devices lag behind in updating their current devices.

NVIDIA is no stranger in this regard, but has kept seemingly tighter control on the release schedule for its Shield Tablet K1 to be updated to Android 6.0. After advising in November that this major update would be made available “in the coming months”, the company has managed to make good on its announcement in a little over a month.

High level features and improvements in the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update include:

•Camera enhancements
•Google Now on Tap
•Adaptable storage (microSD cards can optionally be integrated with main internal storage)
•User interface upgrades
•Improved centralized app permissions
•Power consumption improvements
•Other system-wide improvements

A full change log with further details can be found in this thread on the NVIDIA GeForce forums.

However, current users are warned that microSD storage works differently in Android 6.0 with two configuration options:

•Portable storage will treat the microSD card similar to how it has worked under prior versions of Android and will not erase its contents
•Internal storage will integrate the microSD card with main internal storage but will erase all data on the card beforehand
