The Spectrum could return as a handheld games console

Sir Clive Sinclair has today announced a new handheld games console called the Vega+, which is a look back to his Spectrum days in the early 1980s.

The Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega+ ships with some 1,000 licensed 8-bit ZX Spectrum games already installed. It is more than powerful enough to run the 14,000 total games developed during the 1980s when five million Speccies were sold.

Charging is handled by a microUSB port and there’s a microSD card slot for additional storage. This is infinately better than waiting the four hours for a game to download from a cassette tape.

The Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega+ has a colour LCD on the front of the device or it can be connected to a TV to enjoy an afternoon of retro-gaming on the big screen.

There’s even a choice of three different colours – with the new console shipping in either red, blue or white.
