Platinum Wireless Headset release date confirmed, 3D audio features detailed

We are pleased to announce that our high-end gaming headset, the Platinum Wireless Headset, will be available across the SIEE region from 16th January 2017.

Featuring a premium durable design offering comfort during long gaming sessions, the Platinum Wireless Headset includes enhanced highly positional 7.1 virtual surround-sound powered by PlayStation’s proprietary 3D audio technology.

It’s further equipped with a pair of premium 50mm speaker drivers, multi-position, hidden noise-cancelling microphones and an extended life built-in rechargeable battery.

In addition to working with all PS4 systems, the Platinum Wireless Headset is compatible with mobile devices and PlayStation VR via the included 3.5mm audio cable, perfectly complementing the 3D Audio capabilities built into the PS VR headset.

You may be familiar with 3D audio from PS VR games, which makes game effects sound like they’re coming from all directions, including above and below. The Platinum Wireless Headset brings that same 3D audio to compatible PS4 games, making for incredibly immersive experiences. 3D positional audio can also give you a competitive edge, allowing you to pinpoint the exact location of enemies, even when they’re not in sight, thanks to the use of games positional information.

At launch, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will support the headset’s 3D audio mode through a patch. A variety of upcoming games will also support 3D Audio including MLB The Show 17, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Days Gone.
The team at Naughty Dog was excited to take advantage of this new technology to make Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End sound better than ever. Check out the video below to hear more about how 3D audio brings new life to Nathan Drake’s adventures.

Whether you’re immersing yourself in 3D audio, enhanced 7.1 virtual surround sound, or experimenting with bespoke audio arrangements via the Headset Companion App, we’ve worked hard to make this our best sounding headset to date.
