7000s: Gigabyte SSD writing up to 6.8 GB/s!

7000s: Gigabyte SSD writing up to 6.8 GB/s!

Small return at Gigabyte which, after announcing its Vision motherboards, announces the SSD M.2. With its 7000s series, the brand offers storage that promises to be very powerful.

7000s: an SSD capable of writing up to 6.8 GB/s!

Aorus 7000s With this series, Gigabyte/Aorus offers us two SSDs with rather large capacities. Indeed, we’re talking about 1TB and 2TB units, ideal to install Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Red Dead Redemption II, wholesale.

Joking aside, this model is equipped with a PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe 1.4 interface as well as a Phison PS5018-E18 memory controller. As far as memory is concerned, we are entitled to NAND Flash 3D TLC and an SLC cache in DDR4.

As can be seen, a basic heatsink is present containing the SSD. The latter consists of two aluminum parts with a nanocarbon coating. Finally, there are two thermal pads surrounding the SSD. In addition, there is no need to worry about installation. With an assembly measuring 11.4 mm, Gigabyte indicates that its SSD can be easily installed under a graphics card.

Alternatively, for those who have the desire/the space, the brand offers an alternative heatsink. The latter offers the same coating, but is equipped with two heat pipes and a small network of aluminum fins. But it will not pass under a graphic card.

All that remains to be done is to talk about performance, and on this subject we find :

  • 1 TB :
    • Sequential reading: 7000 MB/s
    • Sequential writing: 5500 MB/s
    • Shuffle playback: 350,000 IOPS
    • Random writing: 700,000 IOPS
  • 2 TB :
    • Sequential reading: 7000 MB/s
    • Sequential writing: 6850 MB/s
    • Random playback: 650,000 IOPS
    • Random writing: 700,000 IOPS

In short, when we see the figures announced, we understand better this reference of “7000s”.

Unfortunately, we will end this article by saying that we don’t know the prices yet. The same goes for the product launch date. On the other hand, the technical data sheet can be consulted on the brand’s website.
