Acer adopts Nvidia 3D solution for latest 3D notebook

Acer has adopted Nvidia’s shutter glass solution for its latest 3D notebook, the Aspire 5745DG, which features a 15.6-inch panel and GeForce GT 425M GPU, and is manufactured by Quanta Computer, targeting mainly the entry-level gaming market, according to sources from notebook players.

Since the company has successfully dropped the notebook model’s selling price to only US$1,000 by adopting a lower-end Nvidia GPU, the price advantage of Wistron’s polarizer 3D solution, which Acer adopted for its first 3D notebook, the Aspire 5738DG, is already gone, the sources noted.

However, Acer still plans to continue launching 3D notebooks using polarizer solutions and will separate its 3D product line into two segments: one with polarizer solutions and the other shutter glasses solutions.

Acer has already stopped production of the Aspire 5738DG as it not achieve significant sales.

In additional news, Wistron originally planned to push its polarizer solution onto TV products and has already sent samples to its clients, but the company so far has not yet received any orders.
