After Samsung, Google would also bet on AMD for their smartphones?

A few days ago, we told you about the release of the first Samsung phones equipped with RDNA chips for next July. This time, a new rumor about the performance of this GPU and a possible new client has reached our ears!

Samsung far ahead of the competition in performance?

Shared on twitter, a post from the client forum gives us more information about the possible performances of the next Samsung chip, which will embark a GPU based on an architecture that would be named mRDNA2 (mobile RDNA2).

This rumor comes from the same person who shared performance figures in May 2020, so he’s doing it again. The chip in question, equipped with the GPU from AMD would dominate the competition, whether in tests conducted by Samsung or AMD.

But significant throttling problems would make the performance drop quickly, which in a first test would drop about 20% and even up to 30% in a second test. Despite this, the performance would be at the rendezvous, thus exceeding the last generation of Mali GPU (G78) and even the next generation (G710).

Google also interested, a success for AMD?

While the Korean Samsung is very confident, and would even begin to negotiate again for AMD to develop a successor to the mRDNA2 architecture, Google would also want to become a customer of AMD to develop new custom SoC according to the same source.

AMD could become a serious competitor in the cell phone market, after computers and consoles, with two market giants like Google and especially Samsung. And let’s not forget that the brand would come to take market share in this sector, before the arrival of NVIDIA, counting on buying ARM, to be able to offer its graphics solutions to all manufacturers of smartphones for example.
