AMD : a mysterious 4700s processor appears

A mysterious AMD processor, named 4700s has just appeared, with a particularity, the CPU is coupled not with DDR4, but with 16 GB of GDDR6.

Would AMD recycle the dies of defective consoles?

Appeared on geekbench and shared by coelacanth, a mysterious 4700s is making news. The processor based on Zen 2 architecture, has 8 cores 16 threads with a base frequency of 3.6 Ghz and a boost to 4 Ghz.

But the most important thing is that this processor has the same PCI ID as the Ariel, a base that has made a lot of talk and would be the GPU used in the Next Gen consoles (Xbox Series and PS5).

At the same time, a Chinese brand has put on sale a computer around this SoC based on an AMD cardinal motherboard. The curiosity is therefore to offer a computer running with this famous 4700s with performance at the level of an Intel core i7-9700 and just below a Ryzen 7 4750G pro, but using 16 GB of GDDR6 instead of DDR4.

AMD SoC 4700s

One more information that would tip the balance on the fact that we would be in the presence of the SoC of a console (Xbox Series or PS5) used, but with the iGPU that would be disabled in view of the presence of an RX 550. The Xbox Series X uses a custom RDNA 2 GPU with 12 TFLOP of computing power, 52 computing units running at 1.82 GHz and is powered by 16 GB of GDDR6 memory… No doubt that this part is defective and that would explain the arrival on the market of this SoC, a simple desire of AMD to recycle these chips normally destined for destruction.

Know that if you only want the kit and not the complete computer, it is currently on sale in Europe on a Finnish site.
