AMD: excellent results for Epyc Milan on Sisoftware


While AMD is once again pushing the performance of mainstream processors with Zen 3, it is now the turn of the server versions to show excellent performance.



AMD Epyc 7713: 64 Zen 3 cores for servers.



Appeared on Sisoftware and relayed by momomo2, Epyc 7713 processors from the Milan range were tested. Using the Zen 3 architecture, giving it better performance with an IPC improved by 19% compared to the Zen 2, these Epyc’s set the bar very high, taking 4th place in the test : Processor Arithmetic.




These two processors, with a total of 128 cores and 256 threads, were running at 2.45 Ghz, giving them a score of 2933.50 GOPS. This result slightly exceeds the performance of a dual socketEpyc 7742 (Zen 2), which has a frequency almost 40% higher (3.4 Ghz). The podium is nevertheless guarded by quad sockets of Xeon Platinum 8280L, offering 112 cores and 224 threads, but also a frequency of almost 4 Ghz.



We will all have noticed these excellent scores despite the low frequency. Of course, it is highly likely that the processors were not running at their final frequencies, and that thanks to a mature 7nm, the Epyc Milan can be clocked at higher speeds than the Epyc Rome. The latter has a higher boost at 3.4 Ghz (Epyc 7742) while keeping the same power consumption (225W TDP).



This new generation is expected by the end of the year and will have to compete with the current Cooper Lake (based on Skylake ) and the next Ice Lake SP (based on Sunny Cove ) which should arrive in the first quarter of 2021.
