OCC_FrTeam March 19, 2021 News Several sources from Taiwan confirmed in the last hours that AMD is in the process of recovering a lot of volume from TSMC. If we believe the latest rumors, AMD could recover 80% more production volume. Better for Ryzen 5000 and Radeon? AMD has become the first customer of TSMC on the 7nm wafer. Of course, these additional 7nm chips did not appear by magic. This fortunate situation can be explained in large part by the massive switch of Apple’s production to 5nm products. A situation that Apple continues to “shield” since the Apple brand has also secured most of TSMC’s 3nm capacity. Or not. But this increase in wafer allocation doesn’t mean that availability will improve immediately. Indeed, it is believed that it will take 1-2 quarters to start seeing the effects on the market. Finally, there remains the question of the priority that AMD gives itself with these new capacities. The EPYC processors have been prioritized in this regard in recent months. A situation that has led to a decline in market share of AMD on the “classic” CPUs in the last quarter of 2020. It remains to be seen where AMD will redirect this breath of fresh air in production. The equation remains complex with the console market that has generated significant residuals. Microsoft and Sony are putting a lot of pressure on AMD in this regard, especially for the second half of the year. Finally, there is the launch of Radeon 6000 GPUs, as ghostly as Nvidia. Then of course the Ryzen 5000. So optimism for the figures of AMD certainly but concerning our GPU / CPU concerns, nothing is less certain. Share On
