AMD has identified the problem with the USB on the B550 and X570

AMD has resolved the problem of intermittent USB connectivity reported by many users. An AGESA update containing the fix will be sent to motherboard manufacturers in the coming days.

Three weeks ago, as the number of reported cases increased, AMD finally acknowledged the problem and started collecting information from users affected by the issue. It was shown that the severity of the problem was unfortunately random, but the probability of its appearance was higher in case of association with the new GPUs and VR headsets for example.

If AMD recognized the existence of the problem, it unfortunately did not indicate what was the technical explanation and the cause of these instabilities. However, a solution is on the way.

Start checking BIOSes in April

If AMD will provide an AGESA update containing the patch in the next few days, it will then be up to brands to roll out new bios to act on their motherboards. AMD estimates that the first beta BIOS with the patch will be available in early April.

AGESA update coming for intermittent USB connectivity

We would like to thank the community here on r/AMD for their help with logs and reports as we investigated the intermittent USB connectivity you highlighted. With your help, we believe we have isolated the root cause and developed a solution that addresses a range of reported symptoms including (but not limited to): USB port loss, USB 2.0 audio cracking (e.g. DAC/AMP combos) and USB/ PCIe Gen 4 exclusion.

AMD has prepared AGESA to roll out this update, and we expect to distribute to our motherboard partners for integration in about a week. Customers can expect downloadable BIOSes containing AGESA to begin with beta updates in early April. The exact timing for updating your system will depend on your vendor’s testing and implementation schedule and specific motherboard model. If you continue to experience intermittent USB connectivity issues after updating your system to AGESA, we encourage you to download the standalone AMD bug report tool and open a ticket with AMD Customer Support.
