Apple is preparing a hybrid handheld console

Apparently, Apple is working on a portable hybrid console, like the Nintendo Switch, which will feature a brand new SoC that is particularly careful with the graphics part. In fact, this story of Apple and gaming dates and comes back regularly…

Talking about Apple and gamers is often to make people laugh or even remember, for the older ones, a failed attempt of Apple’s incursion in the sector .

The hypothetical Apple console: a long story

However, talking about “gaming” today also means considering mobile gamers… And when you add this variable to the equation, Apple becomes quite a client. We know that Apple has several prototypes that are making the rounds of developers, including an Apple TV and an A14X Bionic SoC. But there we would talk about a chip much more muscular in terms of graphics and capable of supporting Ray Tracing.

The rumor also says that Apple wants to make this new product a tool where TV, series, music and games are mixed. The company is also said to be in negotiations with Ubisoft to bring exclusive titles to Apple Arcade.

If we compile the recent rumors about an arrival of Apple in the gaming industry, we also find the project of a Mac focused on games that was supposed to arrive in 2020, but as you can see, we are still waiting for it. The same goes for the project that was supposed to see Apple shake up cloud gaming. All this to say that Apple has the financial power to work on multiple topics, but in the end, the market launch is reserved for a very small list of chosen ones.

Is Apple’s gaming CoD or…Tetris?

The only real question is what kind of gaming are we talking about? Apple Arcade exists and is, all in all, a very relevant product for casual gaming. It’s already accessible through Iphones and Ipads…Making it accessible and more powerful on an Apple TV can indeed be discussed. But developing a real console today, basing everything on the hypothetical power (and marketing) of its new chips and putting the games portfolio on the back burner seems like a risky idea.
