hey guys, lately ive been thinking of maybe upgrading my 6600GT to a 7600GT (thats the best agp card i can find where i am)

is it a worthwhile difference in performance?
    and other thoughts or opinions?

actually.....the AGP flavor of the 7600 is not a GT, but a GS...that is i can be proven wrong again by dyre straits :bleh:.....this time, and on this topic, i don't think he can though :D

    7600GS specs:
    RAM: 256Mb
    12 pixel pipelines
    GPU: 400Mhz
    RAM: 800Mhz
    RAMDAC: 400Mhz
    128bit memory bus
    Max analog res: 2048 x 1536 x 32bit x 85 Hz
    Max digital res: 2560 x 1600 @ 60Hz

    6600GT specs:
    RAM: 128Mb
    8 pixel pipelines
    GPU: 500Mhz
    RAM: 900Mhz
    RAMDAC: 400Mhz
    128bit memory bus
    Max analog res: 2048 x 1536 x 32bit x 85 Hz
    Max digital res: 1600 x 1200

imo, the performance difference between the two cards is minimal at best. largely due to the slower clock frequencies of the 7600GS. However, i still do believe that there will be some performance gains nevertheless.

Well, if you can believe these people, you've been had again... ;)

    GeForce 7600GT AGP

I believe the main difference between the GS and the GT is that the GT is using DDR3 vs. the GS using DDR2. :)

    zoi :sigh:. oh well.

as for specifications, the GT models also have faster clock speeds than the GS. 500/1500, at least that's how it is in the PCI-E flavor. Not too sure about the AGP though.

lol. the clock speeds i gave was regarding the EVGA 7600GT KO model, which has the clock speeds i gave. the one in the link you provided is 560/1400

But, I thought you were using PCIe specs. AND, I thought you were interested in seeing how AGP versions compared.

At any rate, there ARE AGP versions of the GT series. That's the main point. :)

yes, that's the point. i for one thought there wasn't an AGP version of the GT card. I had thought that because i hadn't seen one from my company, and my company is quite large.

the problem with the 7600 is the crappy memory performance,... even though it has 1400mhz.. a 5900 has better frame buffer performance.. the 7600gt will perform better due to its higher shader and rop amount though... but memory intensive tasks such as antialiasing and filtering will kill it.....

how? the 5900 was also only a 4 pixel card (8 technically using 4x2) and it also had only 128bit memory bandwith. same as the 7600gs. however, the 7600gs has 12 pixel pipelines.

to be honest with u , u wouldnt see much of a perfomance improvement specially with demanding games like s.t.a.l.k.e.r and crysis in the works see if u can save a liltle bit more at least for a geforce 7900gt

7900gt has been discontued and replaced by the 7950GT. but for the price you're paying for a 7950GT, you may as well get a 320Mb 8800GTS. it's no more than $50 more than the 7950GT.

However, if price is an issue, going from a 7600GS to an 8800GTS is quite a difference.

Haha, it's funny how that works. One component is only $50 more than a lesser one... But then the one even better is only $50 more than that.... etc etc.
