I don't think we have a dedicated thread, so I thought I'd open one. I got the game on Steam and it seems to be a nice continuation of the Human Revolution story. :)

I've got W7 and W10 in dual boot and I thought I'd give the game a try under the newer OS for the sake of DX12 and simply to see if there is any difference in performance. Unfortunately, I bumped into some technical problems. I played through the "prologue" fine, but, upon getting to Prague, the game, or more precisely, the graphics driver, started to stutter and, after I got into the streets, to crash repeatedly (and too frequently to be playable).

I tried three Catalyst versions, 16.8.2, which was previously installed on the system, 16.12.2, the latest version, and 16.11.5, which I found to be generally recommended. They all behaved identically.

If I dropped back to DX11, the game would not crash, but the pauses (coinciding with HDD activity) persisted. This seems to be a known issue with resource streaming, but I haven't seen a solution.

Finally, getting back to Windows 7 (also 16.8.2 driver), I was able to play normally, with not one crash and no stutters (BTW, in game benchmark reports identical performance on the two OSes).

So, what's the deal with Windows 10? It's not a burning question (W7 runs the game fine and it's still my main OS anyway), but I'd like to know, especially since a switch to a later OS cannot be avoided forever. Specs are as follows:

    Intel Core i7-4790K@4.4GHz
    16GB RAM
    Radeon 7950 3GB
    Gigabyte Z97P-D3
    SilverStone Strider 600W
    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit / Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
    screen resolution 1920x1080

BTW, the Windows 10 installation is almost completely clean. One thing that just occurred to me is that that means that Windows Defender is running, whereas W7 is running Avast Antivirus.

I'm really tempted to get this game! I've gotten the previous iterations all the way back to the original.

But, should I get the standalone now, or go for the full package?

Well, there seems to be no shortage of contents in the basic version that I've got, but (and I've only noticed that now :( ) a ton of people on Steam, who are otherwise praising the game, say that the ending was so abrupt that they couldn't believe that that was it, and felt like the entire final act of the story was left out, with some presuming that it would be added as a DLC.

I'm not sure if the last post is true, though, it would be an unprecedentedly horrible thing to do, plus System Rift, the only additional mission published so far, seems to be rather short and unremarkable.

I have read that this release is the middle of a 3-part story. So, I assume there's a continuation in the next release.

    That would make sense. :)

Not sure if this is the best thread, but I didn't feel like opening a new one. Apparently, it turns out that I have an extra season pass key for this game. Anyone interested?!

I got back to this game (after over 2 years ) and I'm laughing at myself because of how clumsy I feel. I pretty much forgot about the weapon and ammo types, augmentations etc, but I'm slowly relearning. I love the game world and I always have, so I have no clue why I remained away from it for so long.

It's a pity that there is still the (widely documented) ambient occlusion glitch: when set to very high, certain surfaces shimmer, sometimes even without moving the camera; the effect otherwise looks very nice and doesn't even hit the performance much, but I decided to drop the setting to just "On" (which is a lot better than off, but very high is noticeably nicer).

EDIT: Also, the temporal AA + sharpening combo works impressively well. The result is much better than MSAA at a fraction of the performance cost.

Okay, this game just isn't fair! At one point, it presents an exclusive choice between doing one of two missions. One involves getting into the Church of the Machine God cult, which I've wanted since I first encountered them early on (plus it should solve the event from the beginning of the game which kind of sets the tone for the entire game so far), but the other seems a little more important for the underlying story. Some googling and mild spoilers suggest that the two affect the endgame slightly differently. Pooh. It seems though that the cult one isn't that crucial, though.

Either way, I've done the "heist" mission and that's going to be my main path, but I've made a save before making the choice so that I can check out the cult as well.

EDIT: The title of this thread is a little unfortunate, it would probably be better at this stage if it only contained the name of the game (football!).

I really considered getting this game since I had played all the ones prior to this one. I even played "Snowblind"--which was based on Deus:Ex, but the developers disassociated it due to bad reviews of the prior one. (My son had given it to me as a gift. I rather enjoyed it.)
Still, not sure why I didn't get this one..especially after it went on sale...which is my normal practice.

I finished the game last night and Desperate Measures this morning. Good game, just don't make a 2 year break half way through, you'll totally forget who what and why, which really detracts from a game like this. Also, I'm a "completionist", in other words I want to go everywhere, see everything and that means that I sometimes stick in a location way longer than was needed, which slows me down and occasionally I bore myself that way. BTW, I do that partly for the story and partly for the loot which I fear I'll need later (I'm a bit chicken), but I went into the endgame with 50 biocells, tons of ammo and over 10 unused praxis points (and I completed it in two ways, in one of them I used about half of the stash, in the other I used one or two, so I finished still with 10 praxis unused).

I think it was perhaps somewhat less challenging than Human Revolution. Social Enhancer is dumbed down a bit (you really don't have to think at all when it activates, the game all but openly tells you which reply to choose), boss fights are fewer, you can avoid shooting a lot more easily (in HR, there were instances in the latter part of the game where I was unable to avoid a fight and actually got pretty low on ammo). Still, overall, a really fun game.
