Wow... you know.. I thought I had it bad the last couple days... but.. Allan.. thanks for cheering me up!! I feel much better now that I know someone is having it worse than me. Yep.. much better. I guess I should say that I hope things go well for you with the operation, but that could jinx things (for me), so instead I'll just say thanks for the cheerful boost!

Seriously though, I do hope things get better for you.. infact I'm sure it will.. cuz.. well.. unless you lose the foot it just can't get any worse... not much anyways. Ok, so it can get worse... but at least you have the illusion that it will get better... sorta. Neons right, positive thoughts man... that's the key... yeah.. 'cept.. in the back of your mind is that one, little, unpositive thought.. that one, unrelenting thought that it'd be cheaper and faster to pickup a Colt 45 and blast the damn thing off... no.. a shot gun.. blam!

Oh yeah.. now I'm feeling much better. ;)

*OK, so that was bad.. but it made me feel better.. I do hope things go well for you with operation. My best to you. Tip*

Allan, first thing you do is clean as best you can with a peroxide solution or soak the toe in a solution of salt water and periodicalliy dry it off. Ingrown toenails or the infected portions of the soft tissue can harbor gram negative bugs that can eat your foot off, before you do anymore harm, you can actually relieve the pressure from the bullae or area by inserting something soft and blunt and preferably clean under the remaining nail and lift it up to allow any accumulated pus drain. The salt water soaks will shrink some tissues and the peroxide will kill bad strep and staphlacoccus bugs. Be absolutely careful and attempt to relieve the pressure under the nail.
A nice warm bath is not bad, because it softens the tissues surround the bad nail or ingrown nail. If you carefully lift the tissues immediatly adjacent to the ingrown nail it might allow the pressure to relieve itself. It is worth a try.

If the nail has been removed you can use phenol to kill the remaining nail bed where the toenail was torn or you may choose to leave the nail and attampt to roll the curled portion of the nail back out and remove the accumulated skin cells and cebum out before it gets worse. If it has a rank and dirty wet underwear smell it might just be a staph infection, but if it foul and overpowering I fear you may have gram negative bugs and worse yet gangrene, if you have a fever go see a podiatrist, he can help, these are common you know.

    Man...

Allan, reading your diatribe made me hurt with you and laugh at the same time - uck...

That was one awful day, aside from your pain (that alone is bad enough), that offbeat situation with the kids and the boss at work - yikes! I know you were thinking fast on your feet for that one...

You know - it'll get better - hope the operation has gone well, and that you can get some serious rest. You are one tough individual - thank the Lord.

Hope things turn around for you dude. Ingrown toenails are tough, I had one that was pretty bad that medicine did not help, and it festered for months before I got it removed. Once the doc cuts it out, you will be on easy street again :) Just don't forget that squeeze ball, cause getting your toe frozen hurts like a motha...
