    Using Vista 64, Mozilla Firefox.

Checking browser plugins. Oh, I need to update Silverlight. Let's click on update.
    Loading
    Loading
    Loading
Silverlight site autodetects my OS and provides me with the link to download the right version for me.
    Downloading Silverlight64.
    Well, that was quick!
    Closing browser.
    Running executable.
Installation fail to complete because of wrong version of silverlight for the system.
    (wtf?)
    Checking error.
    Checking support site.
Silverlight 5 is not supported on Vista 64....
Ok, I can live with that, Let's download the 32bit version.
    Hmm, where is the link?
    There is nothing.
Oh, I know, I will click on the home page of Silverlight.
    Clicking.
The same page loads and autodetects my system and provides me with the single same link for silverlight64...
    Trying again.
    Different page loads!
Ok, let's click on the Download tab. It might give me more options!
Page with the autodetection mechanism loads.
No options given to choose a different Silverlight 5 version to download.
Oh I know, I should upgrade to Windows 8!!!!!

    Download the x64 silverlight version..

    download Winrar

Extract the contents of the silverlight package to location you can find..

run the MSI that is in there and giggle all the way home.

Yes Microsoft is retarded when it comes to detecting your system and not giving any method for "forcing" it on a system that is more than compatible with it.

Even silverlight x64 works on xp via this means, although during installation it gives an error.... silverlight will still work on xp x64 with the ie x64 browser and x64 waterfox browser.

I use rar for almost 2 decades now. It has yet to fail me.
I don't see how 7zip being open source is something I should care about as a user.

Why do people do this? Brand new user, bumps a few age-old threads and posts stuff like "that is crap, use this instead", completely unjustified and adding nothing to the thread.

I too have used WinRAR for yonks with a flawless experience. Sure, 7zip may be open source but I have no desire to edit their source code.
