About a year ago I noticed heat in the PC , i realised that one fan on the Vid card (Radeon HD 7970) was not working, used a replacement set and managed to get both working again

Noticed yesterday it has happened again with the same fan. I have ordered a replacement set again

Anyone have any ideas why the 1 fan keeps dying ... I don't overclock the card and at default fan speed (about 28%) only 1 fan spins but if I manually push it over 80% they both work

This is causing heat and that's affecting my Video editing and Games

so any ideas on why this keeps happening ? My rig is old now but I cannot afford to upgrade (getting made redundant in June)

    cheers guys

Perhaps cheap fans? That one specifically may be a manufacturers fault

Cheers Judas I do hope its that simple, I ordered a different make of fans this time ... should be here before Christmas and then its a relatively simple replacement job.

It's a weird coincidence, but I do think that most likely it's just a bit of bad luck.

    :(

Oh well, at least you'll get a new lease on life with either a new PC or a new card. I recommend future proofing. Either at least a Geforce RTX 2070 or Radeon 7.

Aw crap! If you wanna go for a "There, I fixed it!" method, you can run a fan off the motherboard for the time being.

Should be ok I have 18 years or redundancy coming so that should help tide me over until something else comes along if there is money left over after I may consider it

Have a few fans on the PC but the position of the card is awkward I will just try a different brand fan and try to fix it again

Have you considered swapping the two fans to rule out that it may be the controller for that one fan? Should be easy enough to just switch the connections.

ok so last couple hours ... tried replacing dead fan with a new fan and no video

Slight panic put back to old configuration no video

have coffee and breathe for 2 minutes

    strip it back down ...

Remove old fans and install new fans

New fan cable to thick for casing so took clippers to GFX covering and created space for cables

    New layer of thermal paste

    all back together

boots first time fans all work ...

    lets see what happens
