Is there a way to turn it on from shut down with hitting a key on the keyboard and not just the power button?
Not out of sleep, out of shut down.

Your best bet would be to look in the BIOS.

I'm not aware of any for a full shut downed system.

I have heard of mobos supporting this feature in the past but never on a laptop. If the ability to turn your machine on isn't available in the BIOS then I guess you're out of luck. Mind you it would still be a warm boot were it there.

Warm boot just means the PC wasn't truly off and was doing some sort of standing by. It is the opposite of a cold boot.

I own computers since the mid 80s, I build since the early 90s. I know what warm boot and cold boot are. :p I am asking what this has to do with...anything? lol
If the laptop supports(ed) it (by it I mean the wake up on keyboard), and it was the same as the option in "desktop" PCs, it would be a cold boot. Well....if I performed a real cold boot and not a Windows 8.1 "shut down".
But that is not the issue, it's if it is possible to do it at all :p

Freestyler! Rock the microphone! Straight from the top of my dome!

So... have you been successful in waking the laptop?
