One of the internet's largest file-sharing sites is offline after US officials charged its founders with piracy, while hackers target US websites in response.

well since there is so much concentration of sopa..... they are doing everything to try and hit websites before it's even introduced.

Megaupload is doing what it can to remove pirated content.. but jebus... they can't afford the exclusion or elimination system that google has funneled into youtube.

Shit thats why the original creators of youtube dumped it the moment someone offered to buy it up. They were so deep in legal mumbo jumbo that they couldn't see the earths crust if they could survive it.

It's gotten to the point that it doesn't matter site it is... someone is going to upload something pirated or whatever.... in some manner and sure it's easy enough to remove the initial stuff... but it turns into a nightmare soon after.

If anything all this just motivates me to defy the laws in question.

crazy its MU they hit. I can see MU having just as much if not more unique valid user content over pirated content, where the same file is uploaded and copied from account to account numerous times. Coincidence all this madness at the same time? I think not. And then there's the anons, as much as I would like to fully believe they are legit, a part of me feels that whole situation was op'd soon after it started.

anyway, check out some free nntp....

Have a read of this article, might provide some light: Why Did the Feds Target Megaupload? And Why Now?

However, MU, along with Rapidshare, probably have the largest amount of pirated content compared to the other sites that I've seen.

Re: Megaupload sharing site shut down

wow... they targeted a website due to doing a very little amount of "stealing" potentially or actually just getting large amounts of money from web ad companies.. and then paying the users/cashing them out..... which is like what google does on youtube... (wait.. what's the difference?)

And really they "stole" a drop in the bucket.... if anything.....

Meanwhile when wallstreet does the EXACT SAME THING repeatedly and still to this day, for trillions of dollars....... it's just fine.

Yeah the priorities are totally straight here and this all makes sense..... brilliant.....

Would have been GREAT to have this fast of a reaction time and massive punishment done to wallstreet and the major criminals.... we'd be lucky to see them even questioned in 100 years time let alone ever.

unless things had changed recently, MU had a shit reward system. The others DDL sites payed way more to users posting links and generating subscriptions.

anyone wanna beat up some DDL links?

Few tidbits of infos, interesting if nothing else......

If you try to go to www.megaupload.com it seems to be timing out most of the time. But the 1st time I tried earlier it gave me a FBI seizure notice. If you view the source URL for the image it points here.

    http://s3.amazonaws.com/usdoj/banner.jpg

Seems the FBI outsource to the same place as the anons when mucking about the interwebs.

Re: Megaupload sharing site shut down

I think what pissed me off more is how some online mainstream media focused for some reason on the lifestyle of the owner of MU. Like, how he dares make money and have a few cars out of his (at least till he was arrested) legitimate business!

I rarely used MU and when I did was mostly for small files I couldn't find elsewhere (patches etc), but the whole operation against MU and its owner, stinks.

Megaupload was my fav site I didn't use it much but if someone was hosting drivers or personal files the speeds were always the best and less ad popups if I recall. Oh well.

No kidding, half the articles here refer to the guy as "Dr Evil", you'd expect the guy to be Bin Laden's mentor or something like that.

One thing always rings true about America though, Can't have them arrested in their own country? Bring em to yours where you can shoot 'em as many times as you like.

I think the whole extradition system is full blown bullshit. If it's a direct attack like a terrorist attack or a cyber/internet based attack (like Garry McKinon) then maybe fair enough if the circumstances all match up but not for 4 guys that own a website on the other side of the globe... that isn't hosted in America....

World Police, That's what they're trying to be.
