Following is a perma-link for the new HH Discord channel that me and Mousey just made...

    https://discord.gg/7qgjt5J

Anyone on HH can join, it should be a fun place for the regulars to relax in as well. Also seeing as Steam gaming groups are not as big for gaming anymore, we can definitely use this to link up and play games together as well. One thing I like about Discord is that further than just letting you chat, it also shows what games you're playing, would be interesting to see what games everyone is playing at the moment as well.

Also any suggestions can be made either here or in the group and the admins will try to add them to the group as and when they arise. See you here and there HHers!

I use Discord in our area to play Pokemon Go! In our area we have over 2000 members. There is also a channel for those playing the new Harry Potter game...which I tried for awhile and got tired of quite quickly. But, it's very nice to be able to coordinate RAIDS, meet-ups, etc. We even can share snapshots of our favorite catches and stuff like that.

From what I heard few months ago Discord is major spying on the users, so not for me. But good luck.

I'm pretty sure most of the internet is spying on it's users....

@Trusteft Every program that can harvest data uses it for it's own personal gain, that's a given. Where there is a way to make money, they will make money, trust me. I used to work in Sales and even our company did this.

Trading customer data is a normal thing nowadays.

That's for you to accept, for me to avoid it when possible.

You do know like 99% of the info about you is already swirling about on computers around the world, right?

Discord captures everything. Text, images, VOIP chat, IP address, and email. The latter 2 aren't a problem as you'd be using their service. The former 3 though... o_O

No, far less. You won't believe how much fake information I have shared over the last 25 years (that I use the internet).

@Tipstaff @Trusteft My question, again, to you is this... what do you have to hide?

The best they can do is use your information for targeted advertising, provided you're an upstanding citizen.

Oh I do understand the totality and scope of the data collecting that goes on trust me, I just choose not to fight it.

Instead of fighting the waves, I let them engulf me.

Neat idea but wouldn't it have a negative impact on the activity on the forum?

considering the current state of message boards and forums.... they are quickly dwindling in use/popularity in favour of setting of a dedicated subreddit and modern discord. Some sites have permanently set their messageboard/forum to archive only and pushed everyone onto discord. A few very popular sites however still maintain a forum but for the most part, there are no off topic sections anymore and are strictly for archivable support/assistance, the rest is regulated to discord

I use only 3 forums. This one, macrumors (rarely) and GOG (more often).
If any of them force me to use reddit or discord, I am out of there.

I don't think it would have a negative impact on the forums as I don't know if you are familiar with discord, it is just for informal chatting mostly, nothing too detailed.

Like I'm not going to post news on the Discord, it's not like Reddit. At all. You'd have to be familiar with Discord to understand. The number one thing people use Discord for is either a) to just get in a lobby and chat randomly or b) to get in a voice channel and play a game together. You'd have to have used Discord before in order to understand really.

In fact I would go in so far as to argue that it would complement the forums quite well and not just improve engagement on here, but bring new members in as well.
