On Monday, NVIDIA announced a deal with AGEIA Technologies, acquiring the "leader in gaming physics technology" and the PhysX software package - which to date has been incorporated into 140+ games, and which has over 10,000 licensees of the SDK.

I saw that coming. Not Nvidia or AMD, but one of them. About time too.

should make it a more viable tech now. with triple pcie slots starting to pop up can see a sli & physics card setup as a very nice option. best would be a custom card that emphasises everything but physics in one slot & the physics card in the second slot.... assuming nv starts really pushing it & keeps a seperate card.
really hoping they start coming out with some single card solutions to.

Great and hopefully it will be a feature in upcoming nvidia gfx cards and not via a dedicated card, which imo is waste of money.

    Hey! It's late!

I see Nvidia now making a graphics card that will also have the ageia in it, instead of seperate cards. It makes more sense, "buy our graphics card that includes physics card, 2 in 1!!!"

Lets see how this unfolds, considering secondary physics processing is an elaborate joke in most circumstances (increased CPU load, lower framerates all for some tacky looking SFX). Maybe Nvidia will produce some results with the acquisition.

I have a feeling this could end up like technologies like 3Dc (well, it was a much smaller scale tech that only had much to do with the technical side of things, but same premise), though.

i'm still unhappy because i was in hope AMD buys Ageia ...
(imagine great crossfire/crossfire X, cheap 2nd/3rd/4th card in system running PhysX calculations just after one driver update
just up2date supported games should cause needed increase of sales... but this dream is now gone)

NVIDIA got AGEIA (150+ titles including UE3 games w/o Havok)
    INTEL got Havok (250+titles)
and AMD seems like dead in water

    ---
yet i'm pretty sure NVIDIA is up to something more than just GPU + PPU on single PCB

anyone remember SoundStorm 1,2 ? so what if NVIDIA throws out GPU+PPU+APU on single PCB (sorta 4 cores, 2 dedicated GPU and 2 generic purpose GPU/PPU/APU)

    give sense

that's why AMD now should buy Creative Labs [IMG] (low price of stock, load of IP (patents from EMU, Aureal, Sensaura, 3Dlabs and else))

logic would be a GPU and PPU on the same card,

but its more thier hardware still to date is lacking IMO
so i think it more quash them just in case kinda deal
eat thier tech, put it in a future line, polish it and call it "new".

face it Ageia could-a-would of cut into multi/SLI/crossfire sales more then anything why they got ate
