    He outlived many of his more famous contemporaries, but, I still recall watching his act at many times on the TV. He did make an appearance in a few movies, too. But, he's mostly remembered for being able to ad-lib insults that were never mean-spirited.

    He was a sailor and if there is anything we excel at it is self deprecation and poking fun at character defects. I remember his role in Kelly's Heroes. I remember my parents laughing uncontrollably and shocked at his jokes about bigotry, racism, sexism, organized crime and ribbing entertainers.
    He published a book of memoirs but I have not read it yet. I don't think Snowflakes that are offended at everything survive one of his monologues.
    There will never be another like him.
