There are some files available to update through Windows Update (Vista x64)

C-Media Inc - Audio Device - USB Audio Class 1.0 and 2.0 DAC Device Driver
Realtek driver update for Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller

The system works fine as is, no idea if they are even the appropriate files for my hardware.
I don't trust Windows Update THAT much for drivers' updates.
So...what do you think, should I accept the updates or not?

My motherboard is of course the super new Asus P5Q WS.

if there are no issues, why bother?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. and all that jazz
Especially with Windows Updater.. I'd take driver recommendations with a grain of salt.

I more or less avoid updating any drivers other than the GPU ones. Like Neshi said, "If it works..." Also, if I wanted to update the drivers, I'd try the manufacturer's site (either ASUS or Realtek, probably Realtek).

I don't trust Windows Update's drivers for taffy. I've had far too many bad experiences with hardware not working due to Windows drivers.
The biggest suspects are when the official drivers are new and Windows Update says that there are newer drivers.

Update Windows Essentials if you use them and Silverlight if you have it at all, because, like all web plug ins, older versions can be a security risk.

the only ones I ever allow through from windows update are network device drivers (wireless or not).... and on some selected machines, such as dells... the audio driver quite often is far more reliable and less buggy or bloated with nonsense crapware. The other cases are VERY specific to certain chipset driver bits that aren't included in the reference drivers, such as the intel MEI drivers... or sometimes the occasional Bluetooth drivers.

Otherwise keyboards/mice/touchpads/gpu/sound are never installed /updated through wu.

I, once upon a time, was allowing Windows Updates to update motherboard drivers. UNTIL...Windows Update downloaded and installed C-Media audio files for my Realtek Audio device. It took me a bit to find out why my audio stopped working. After getting it corrected, I kept getting a nagging update notification for the C-Media files.

I no longer allow Windows to update ANY drivers and, when possible, I go to the source directly for any updates.

If Silverlight is an optional update, that may be install rather than update - if you NEED Silverlight, for the very few sites that use Microsoft's attempt to usurp Flash & Java, then keep it updated, but were it not for Netflix, Silverlight would be DEAD!

The windows update driver for Realtek GBE is apparently problematic - better to update this from Realtek.

Don't know about the Cmedia USB audio - do you use a USB VoIP device - if there are no USB audio devices, then that sound completely wrong.
