Say a big hello to W Series, an all-new single-seater race series just for women. Whether the W stands for ‘women’ or ‘woke’ we’re not quite sure, but it’s designed to lead us to a point where there’s a far greater gender balance in motorsport.

“At the heart of W Series’s DNA is the firm belief that women can compete equally with men in motorsport,” says the official bumf. “However, an all-female series is essential in order to force greater female participation.”

just like the other sporting events that no one really pays any attention to?

They believe in that so much that they've made a special women only competition in a sport that was usually not gender segregated.

I guess that it can be rationalized as a stepping stone:
    • step one: get more attention for women drivers (because they are normally nearly invisible in auto-motosport) by giving them their own competition
    • step two: with the (hoped success) of step one, get more women into racing
    • step three: with the increase in numbers from step 2, more women will start to appear that are good enough to drive on par with men.

it's rather contradictory isn't it.... considering that as "equal" as they want it, they tend to produce these kinds of separations intentionally... meanwhile there are a few women or at least i know for sure of one woman that currently compete with men and they are very happy about it.

The failure is the expectations and the demand for 50/50 split of men and women in everything, and that's bloody well impossible because most women simply don't have an interest in what men dominate, and most men don't have an interest in what women dominate.... granted the "equality of outcome" 'ers never ever mention anything about the things women dominate in... the hypocrisy is palatable in that regard.

I don't think that the W Series cars are aerodynamic enough.

    Ah, I see.

Also I'm sure they want the women to drive a little slower than men, after all women don't know what technical things like aerodynamics are.
