It were a completely clean install, But its a MCT that must be at least 6 months or so old.

But I'm now creating a new USB Installation now, Going to format again to see if this changes the Windows Update error.

EDIT: It must of been linked to installing from a older MCT, just odd that I have used it before with no issue.

Yes, I tried that 4 times yesterday to no avail.. (I have that bookmarked for future reference..

As I said I have refreshed my USB drive to the latest version of windows, which has worked.. The only issue were windows update. Windows store were perfectly fine.

    Thanks.

If I remember correctly if I click on the X, this will actually install later on.
    How can I avoid this?
I am getting very very very pissed off with MS.

I am considering solutions. Permanent solutions.
    1) The cheapest would be to go completely offline with my W8.1 gaming system. Perhaps even reinstall windows and leave it without updates. Updating drivers through USB. The only issue would be Steam which of course has to go online to install any of the games I have bought from there.
Thankfully my GOG list has grown a lot.
    2) Install Windows 10 on my 8.1 gaming system. Remove any personal files and use it more or less as a gaming console. Not even checking my email on it, or even forums. Use other (linux) systems for anything that has to do with online and personal stuff. Not going to check even the weather on my W10 system.
    3) Install Linux on my 8.1 gaming system. Forget Windows altogether. The only issue with it is the vast number of games I have which are Windows native.
    4) Sell all my PCs, get a Mac when they decide to release new models later this year.

I can't tell you how much I hate MS for being such douches.

2 and 3 are the most logical in my opinion.

    1. Going offline will limit your options, particularly with "always on" games, downloading new ones, updating games or anything else that you need the Internet for on that machine.

    2. That'd be called an Xbox One.
There are options available to clear up a lot of the Win10 stuff. I would recommend this video for getting rid of bloatware and tjis one to assist with the blocking of spying.

    3. Anything that won't run natively or on Wine you could solve with either in-home streaming connected to a Windows machine or run a KVM pass through.

    4. OSX is diabolical for games.

I think ASUS has broken Windows Update on my laptop, so I don't see the W10 nagware. Similarly, if you remove the offending updates and disable Windows Update on your Windows 8.1 system, you should be fine, even if you go online. And since the upgrade will stop being free by the end of July, I expect the nagging to stop as well.

If MS stops offering free upgrade to W10 in the summer, I will suck a cock and show it on my youtube channel.

Straight from the horse's (well, Satya Nadella's) mouth: Windows 10 is a service, not an operating system.

To be fair, I have to admire the long term vision. If I remember correctly Bill Gates spoke about this as far as the second half of the nineties. That's not to say that I thoroughly abhor the concept.

Why stay on W8.1 when you have W10?

W7 I can understand... but W10 is better than W8.1 in many ways.

I've heard positive things about the application. However, if spying is your main concern about Windows 10, fret not as it's present in Windows 8. People just talk about it less. You can do research yourself but here is an intro. Lately, however, MS have been slipping unimportant updates (like the Win10 upgrade notice) into critical updates.

I already have 8.1 If I didn't I wouldn't get it either. The fact that MS brought those snooping updates says a lot. They weren't part of W8.1.
Trust me, the next system I get will not have any Windows on it. MS can suck my lollipop.

I wonder. If I do the update on one computer then revert back to W7, will it still count if I want to install 10 permanently later on?

I'd take not of the serial if I were you, just in case. If the serial is fine then re-installing should be fine.
