Hi, this morning I turned on my computer and got this screen.

Nothing has been disconnected despite what it says, and the keyboard doesn't work. I can't press F8 for more boot option and I can't press Enter to retry the boot.

I just don't know what to do.

    Any ideas?

Edit: I tried to get to my boot screen, to boot from the Windows 8 disc and try a repair or maybe a system restore, but either my keyboard doesn't work (I've tried another just in case) or it's not registering the key press.

Do you have any USB drives plugged a port - a faulty drive can halt the boot process.

I just tried unplugging all USB devices but the problem remains the same.

Can you get to the BIOS?

I had a similar issue the other day. I think that my boot drive got an unexpected shut down as it was installing Windows Updates and wouldn't boot as a result. When I restarted it seemed to automatically look at the USB drive that held the OS and started the repair process.

If you can get to the BIOS. You can check that your drives are being detected properly. Also check what mode your AHCI controller is running in. If you can set you boot priority to your Windows 8 CD and let the setup process run, there should be an option to repair or refresh in there (refresh will remove your desktop applications).

Do you have a clear CMOS button?

Might be time to try wiping your BIOS setup and reverting to default to see if that will allow you to get back into the BIOS setup and go from there.

OK I fixed it lol, don't know how or why. I? pressed the Go2Bios button on my motherboard, this allowed me to go and set my DVD drive as boot option 1 and the HD as 2. When I rebooted, the computer skipped booting from the disc and booted the HD fine.

    So it's all fixed lol.

I have had a perplexing issue with Windows 8.1 myself over the last few days. Ever since I installed my latest SSD.

Whenever I switched on my system in the morning, it would boot and enter into the OS just fine. All systems appeared normal but after a few minutes the system would just trip out. Not a BSOD or restart, the system would just power off and then restart, only it would take me to the BIOS splash with a 'boot failed' message.

I think this is related to the 'Fast Restart' feature in Windows 8.1. I disabled this yesterday and the system booted fine this morning so fingers crossed.

If you have any more issues you might consider this as a possible cause.
