The CS650M Inside

After opening the PSU we find a 12cm fan which is NOT Corsair branded. This is a DC12v model with 0.33A rating and is branded HA1225L12S-Z.

CS650M PCB components

As with their other recent units the CS650M uses a black PCB and this particular model is fairly well packed with components including two daughter boards and two heatsinks. Where appropriate components are secured with white adhesive and wiring is tied in place where needed. Soldering is also ok quality and we noted no manufacturing defects.

This range also has several features which combine to protect the PC components in the event of a fault developing. First up is Over/Under Voltage Protection which ensures that the 12, 5 and 3.3v outputs do not exceed a set level. Over power protection ensures the unit stays within safe limits and short-circuit protection is also present which powers off the PSU should any of the 3.3v, 5v or 12v rails short any other rail or ground. Over temperature protection is also included.

For key features we have a unit which has one +12v rail rated for 51A and Corsair add to this an 80 Plus Gold certified spec which means it has passed certification of 88% efficiency at 20% and 100% load with 50% load rated at over 92% (240V).

Looking a little closer we find two 400v-270µF Teapo capacitors rated for 85°C. The other parts are a mix including Teapo again along with the likes of Elite… a manufacturer we haven’t seen Corsair use before which was a similar scenario with some of the parts used on he RM series.
