Our feeling is that they were to achieve a gold efficiency unit with modular cables at a competitive price. To achieve that, and we started to see this trend on other units recently, Corsair have gone with standard parts where needed. So the chassis and native cables for example. Then added a little flair with the flat modular cables before sourcing components for inside which suited the build goals. That means we get a real mix of capacitors inside and anyone looking for the well-known and respected 105°C brands will need to look elsewhere. The build quality is passable, soldering and adhesive could be tidier for example and even the fan is one sourced outside the company which was a real surprise. The end result also has one interesting quirk… this PSU has a 3-year warranty but 150,000 MTBF rating. The more expensive RM series has a 5-year warranty but MTBF is 100,000 hours. When it comes down to it though sometimes in life we all need a cheap solution to a particular need. The CS650M will be that for a lot of people… for us, we would stick a bit extra money aside and go for a higher spec Corsair model with longer warranty and slightly higher spec component choice.
