Corsair Force GT 120GB SSD Review

Corsair Force GT 120GB SSD Review

Conclusion

Starting with the build quality of the Force GT we have the usual high standard from Corsair, a solid casing on the outside protects the high quality branded controller and flash within. There is no flex to the connector and each part fits together well. Design wise the drive also impresses, firstly because it’s nice to see something a little different in terms of colour but also because it would work really well in a red/black themed build such as one using the ASUS Crosshair V Formula board which supports SATA 6Gb/s.

Speaking of speed, the Force GT continues to score well in that regard. Throughout the review it was able to outperform a higher capacity Intel model based on the latest Marvell controller. There was one little blip where we saw larger file transfers (4GB and above) completing first on the Intel drive which is specifically targeted at that area but installations, boot times and file transfers up to 1GB were all faster on the Force GT than Intel’s 510 series SSD, as were our synthetic benchmarks.

Value wise Corsair offer a 3-year warranty with the Force GT and bundle a 2.5 to 3.5 inch drive bay convertor. It would be nice to see them offer a tool which could assist with easy firmware updates and drive maintenance as Intel and OCZ do however that may still happen. Regardless of that though the drive seems well priced at a little more than the low cost SandForce based models and a little less than OCZ’s performance tuned MaxIOPS range ($289 vs. $309 for 120GB).

Summary
An impressive drive from Corsair which is ideal for those looking to minimise boot/load times as well as reduce the time taken for installations and file transfers of 1GB and below.
